A word about lost comments

Several people have mentioned that comments are missing. I'm not sure what is going on, but Blogger seems to be having a bad time of it lately. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I can do about this as I have no control over what Google does once a comment is submitted. I either get notified of a comment and publish it or I never see it at all. If you are using a particular account and failing, it sometimes helps to use a different account to post a comment from.

I realize that this is frustrating for readers, especially when a contest is going on and your comments serve as your entry, but please know that I'm not failing to publish the comments. I'm just not seeing them at all. If you try to comment and it doesn't show up in 8 hours, please e-mail me the comment and I will post it for you. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If it were in my power to do something about it, I certainly would!

  1. I think Blogspot is still one of the best options for bloggers right now, but it can be frustrating how many bugs and broken features seem to go unaddressed by Google. I guess they have other priorities. Anyway I hope the comment problem gets resolved quickly!

  2. Bummer, I was wondering what was up... and I hate to post again for fear of having a billion appear that were stuck.

  3. I discovered a weird thing about posting here from a Google account - you need to do it twice, as the first one only seems to ID you, not actually post the comment.

    1. More specifically, you need to log in before you post. But yeah, I noticed that too. I also find you get better feedback on whether it's posted or not by previewing first.

Comments are moderated and will not show up immediately. If you want to make sure that your comment survives moderation, be respectful. Pretend you're giving feedback to your boss and would like a raise when you're speaking. Comments that reflect anger or a bad attitude on the part of the poster will not be posted. I strongly recommend reading the posts "What This Blog Is and Is Not" and "Why There Were No Comments" (in the sidebar under "FYI") before commenting.
